Child Line 1098- Jammu & Kashmir

While the human beings are coming closer in terms of the world perspective, on the other hand, families are gradually reducing in size. Increasing trend of industrialization caused the migration of youths towards cities in search of jobs. Villages started shrinking and cities became overcrowded. Need for population control arose.

Now the situation is such that the number of members in a singly family is limited to 3 or 4. However, in this entire process of transformation, it is the child who suffers. Today, children don’t even see the faces of their relatives for a couple of days. Parents also cannot devote sufficient time for their children; even at the time of sickness. This is severely affecting the psychology of children day by day. They are falling prey to intoxication and bad company due to the absence of sanskars. They are becoming more self-centered.

Children belonging to economically weaker families have to opt for jobs at an early age for supporting the families. Sports and education are not within their reach. Such children working at shops, hotels, etc become a victim of exploitation. Dressing down by parents and exploitation at the work place compels these children to run away from their homes and this aggravates their problems further giving birth to a number of social evils.

Since last few years, a commendable work has been done in the field of Human Rights. A number of Human Rights Organizations raised this children’s issue at global level as a result of which the entire world community is now looking towards children as the constituents of the society.

A great attention is now being paid towards their problems and research is also being carried out to find a feasible solution. The concept of Child Line is the result of this intellectual churn that is gaining a strong foothold nowadays in India as well as abroad. The scheme has been launched by the Government of India’s Ministry of Women and Child Welfare in collaboration with government/ non-governmental institutions, educational institutions and corporate agencies.

Many voluntary organizations and institutions working in the field of child welfare are efficiently executing this scheme. ‘Jammu Child Line 1098 Night and Day’ associated with Child Line India Foundation is one such institution that is playing a great role in looking after the children in the region. Red Cross Society’s Jammu Unit, Seva Bharati Jammu and Kashmir and a number of other institutions are rendering their active co-operation for the drive.

 If a child is unwell at home and he/ she has to stay alone, if some child needs shelter, if someone has become destitute, if forced to child labour or sexual exploitation, then the problem can be sorted out by making just a single phone call at 1098. Interested people from the society having concern towards such children can also participate in this seva work. Your single phone call can transform the entire life of a needy child.

How to reach:

By air: Jammu Airport is well connected with many major airports in the country, including Delhi, Srinagar and Leh. Almost all air service providers operate regular flights from Jammu. 

By train: The major railway station at Jammu is Jammu Tawi. Jammu Tawi is connected to all major cities in India including the south most Trivandrum railway station. 

By bus: Jammu is well connected by bus services. It is connected to many neighboring cities through private tourist buses including Manali, Shimla, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Ambala, and Delhi. Delhi to Jammu is about 684 km.
