An initiative to plant Nisi (Tusli) in every house - Deendayal Dham, Mathura

Deendayal Dham, Mathura - An initiative to plant Nisi (Tusli) in every house

There is a 300-year old banyan tree at Deendayal Dham. One very old pond is also there. The rainwater is stored in this pond. This is the reason that the ground water around this pond is potable. It is important because all the water sources here are salty and are not fit for drinking. Thousands of villagers collect drinking water from here every day. Sometimes this pond is recharged with canal water so that there is no shortage of drinking water in the area.

There is also a small pond which is used for animals and washing clothes.

In the east of Deendayal Dham, the Govardhan nallah flows. It has sufficient water during the rainy season, but this whole water directly flows into the Yamuna without any use. During the summer, some water is also released in this nallah from the Agra canal for irrigation.

There is a water technology centre at outfall of this nallah. Effort is on to build a check-dam at the outfall with the help of the Indian Institute of Agriculture Research, Pusa, New Delhi and the District Administration, Mathura.

There is a hostel and workers' residential complex in the premises of Deendayal Dham. Work is going on to reuse the waste water produced here for irrigation after treating it. An amla garden was developed on a two acre plot in Deendayal Dham during the year 1997. It was a good initiative for environmental protection.

During the year 2007 plants of about 5,000 shade-giving trees were planted which are growing perfectly. About 8,000 more saplings were planted in the year 2009. Now work is going on to plant at least one Tusli in every house in and around the villages of Deendayal Dham.
