I made kite industry to grow from Rs 35 crores to Rs 700 crores in few years
- Modi while campaigning in Varanasi, to win votes of muslims engaged in kite industry.
But, there is a flip side, a horrific one in this rapid growth of lust for entertainment by man in the name of festivals.
Killing
and maiming of hundreds of birds including migratory ones by the
catastrophic 'Kite festival' organised in all cities of Gujarat, the
so-called land of Ahimsa. It is not annual kite festival, rather annual
bird massacre day, says bird lovers.
Is
this the development and economic growth we and our politicians are
talking about? What development is going to be left for us any way,
after we destroy irreversibly the environment and all other species
and converting our cities and streets, lakes and rivers, mountains and
forests into one giant Graveyard ? Shame on us, absolutely.

.....'Much to the annoyance of bird-lovers and conservationists, the
tourism department is holding the International Kite Festival at
Ishwariya lake, one of the finest wetlands in the state and home to
thousands of migratory birds.'.... unquote
