Emphasis on complete personality development - Sri Nivedita Niketan,Hosur

Emphasis on complete personality development - Sri Nivedita Niketan, Hosur

Take a walk down your memory lane. Do you remember the laughter echoing in your classrooms, discussing your dreams with friends during the break, the prizes you won and the games you played? The life indeed was carefree and fun then.

Just for a minute, think about the children who have dreams in their eyes and the desire to excel themselves to get a basic education that would pave their way to a bright self-sufficient future but they cannot afford it.

There is where you can help. A gesture could make these children responsible, self-sufficient citizens of the country besides turning them into self-respecting individuals. A cause to give back something to the society of which you are an integral part.

With these objectives Sri Nivedita Niketan was started in June 1998 with the blessings of her holiness Sri Ramaparna Mataji, president of Sri Sarada Mutt, Chennai in the presence of the then Deputy Collector of Hosur Sushri Apoorva.

Sri Nivedita Sewa Trust runs this Ashram under the guidance and support of Sewa Bharati, Tamil Nadu. The objective of the Ashram is to take care of destitute girls in accordance with Bharatiya traditions and culture. The Niketan is a home for destitute girls and women from Tamil Nadu and the neighbouring states. So far, 59 children have enjoyed the love and care of this Niketan. Many revisit even after leaving the Ashram. At present there are 25 children in the Niketan, which has been a mother's home for them.

So far, five inmates got married with the blessings and wishes of the well wishers of Sewa Bharati. Their welfare including pre-natal care, child birth etc., is taken care of in accordance with the Indian traditions, as is done at one's home.

True to the traditions of service for which the Niketan stands for, some of the inmates of the Niketan did exemplary service during tsunami disaster. One of the inmates who also served as care taker, stayed in Vannivayal village in Ramanathapuram district serving the victims despite severe skin allergy due to water contamination. She continued her service activities even after her marriage along with her husband.

Family counselling services are also provided to resolve family and marital problems thus playing a small role in the upliftment of the society.

Sri Nivedita Niketan is run by like minded volunteers and well wishers, who support in various fotms. Earlier in the initial stages, the Ashram used to go to the door steps of the public and ask for rice, dal and other essential commodities. But later the people started donating on their own and now in the present scenario the service minded people have started sharing their happiness on their birthdays and anniversaries by celebrating them with the children in Niketan and sponsoring them the food and sweets. Today, a large number of good hearted people have taken initiative and regularly support by providing dresses, uniforms, books and other essential items required by girls.

Some homemakers spare their valuable time and take tuitions and some provide monetary assistance while some doctors provide free medical care. Some look after the maintenance work while some people spare their special occasions by giving food and clothes to the children. Some give joy by just visiting them often.

This new building was inaugurated in October 2009 by the then Collector of Krishnagiri District Shri V.K.
