Mahila
Swavalamban Kendra, run by Dr. Hedgewar Janma Shatabdi Seva Samiti, was started
in 1993. It was inaugurated by Shri Ashok Singhal of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Objectives of the Center:
“Gods
live where women are worshipped”. Women represent half the society and she is
the center point of the family and is its foundation. Her contribution is great
in the development of coming generation. She is capable of bringing a positive
change in the family by her attitude, social orientation and love for the
motherland. This can unite the society and build its character. The objective
of the 'Mahila Swavalamban Kendra' is to make the woman alert, educated,
ethical, confident and self-reliant'.
The
Kendra is located in the neighborhood of societies like Gayatri, Krishna Kunj,
Vaishali, Girivrinda, Shivaji Park, Arunodaya etc. In close proximity are the
colonies of the underprivileged, Iike Ambedkar Nagar, Premnagar, Bahucharnagar.
One of the objectives of the center is to achieve social integration by
conducting relevant activities.
The
initiatives run by the Kendra:
Tailoring
Center:
→Comprehensive
education for T.T.N.C. examination
→Primary
training for illiterate women in tailoring
→3
months’ course in stitching of frocks, dresses, blouse etc.
→Modern
Fashion Design course - conducted by T.T.N.C. trained teachers
Ladies Library and Reading Room:
→Large
collection of books/publications which are of interest and use for ladies
→Various
daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly magazines are made available. Women can
become members as individuals or in groups of 6 -7
→Girls
studying in 10th and 12th standards are using the Reading Room for their
studies. Also made available 'Modern Magazine' - a publication which is useful
for preparation of examinations.
Computer Classes:
Girls
are given primary computer education by experts in MS Office, Tally, Internet
etc.
Bal Sanskar Kendra:
The
Children's Cultural Center works for all round cultural development of children
through activities such as Prayer, Songs, Story Telling, Travel, Birth
Anniversaries etc.
Useful healing accessories for
recuperating patients:
Recuperating
Patients need various accessories / equipment for a long time to enable faster
recovery. However, such equipment becomes redundant after the patient recovers
from sickness. Walker, walking stick, commode, backrest, hot water bag, ice bag
etc. are such equipments which are given on returnable basis at a very low
charge.

Regular
contact by visiting homes of all the families plays a very import role in our
activities. The dedicated women volunteers of the Center stay in regular
contact with the women beneficiaries, others,
social
service volunteers are doing selfless social service, and visit dignitaries in
the society. As a result of this, more than 1000 families are in touch with the
Centre.
Future Programs :
→Everyday Clinic: For
ladies and children
→Development
Centre for Women: This centre will conduct training programs in Personality
development for Volunteering women, Motherhood and Child Development Training
for women and workshops/ programs on other relevant themes. It is planned to
make this Centre as the leading Development Centre for Women in the whole of
Karnavati city.
→ Legal Guidance : It is planned
to start a Legal guidance and aid centre for women.
A Memorable Incident:
A
few years ago there was flooding in East Gujarat due to torrential rain. The
localities around our centre were flooded with 3-4 feet deep water in the
houses. The locals were afraid to go to the area to aid the stranded people. At
that difficult time the women from the Swavalamban Kendra went there with food
and other essential supplies to give relief to the stranded people. We also
gave shelter to many persons from endangered families. Since then our centre
has gained the trust and faith of the common people.
