Relief Work Done by Sevabharathi Volunteers during Chennai Floods


Known for their selfless work for any cause of the nation, Sevabharathi was in the forefront of carrying out relief for flood victims when a devastating natural calamity hit Chennai.

Clothes for the needy, shelter for the abandoned, milk for children and doctors to treat the ill, all were arranged and managed by RSS Sevabharathi.

These efforts did count much in bringing relief to a traumatized people.



Health Camps that Benefitted All Sections of the Society:-
Medical camps were organized at various places in Chennai to help the needy.

Hundreds of patients received the necessary healthcare through this medical camp, regardless of which caste, creed or religion they belonged too.  Muslims too attended the medical camp and thanked the RSS.  Local residents admired the efforts and dedication of volunteers.


Free bike service at Satyamurthi Nagar, Thivotriyur & Palla Street junction, Vyasarpadi of Chennai:-
Door to door campaign was launched and tokens were handed over to the beneficiaries.  Test ride, oiling, spare parts checking, general service, brake checking, chain-nut checking were done.

A total of 10 mechanics helped repair around 200 bikes during this seva activity.

Mass cleaning at various Government schools at Kotturpuram, Kolathur, Adambakkam in Chennai:-


Cleaning of classrooms, bleaching, sanitizing, sump cleaning, cleaning of whole school was carried on by RSS-Sevabharathi volunteers.

Seva Activity at Vadapalani and Nesapakkam:-
In Vadapalani, around 60 swayamsevaks and 15 women participated in relief work.  Relief materials were distributed to sub-centers like MMDA, K K Nagar, Nesapakkam, Mambalam, T Nagar, Adyar and Saidpet.





Relief material distributed was as follows:-
41,500 food packets
18400 water packets
11,832 water bottles
Dress materials to 980 people
Kits containing basic materials to 5000 people.
Swayamsevaks made and distributed 7704 kits (including 1030 kits from Alwarpet).
In Nesapakkam, swayamsevaks who were in relief activity from the first spell of rains in November, distributed food to 4000 people and settled them in relief camps.

In the second spell of rains, about 3,000 people were rescued.

On the second day itself, 5000 people were fed with food; temporary pathway was formed for the public to come out from the floods which was very much appreciated by the locals; 13 medical camps were conducted so far wherein 5000 patients were benefited.

Relief Work in Adyar, Kotturpuram, and Perungudi areas:-
RSS-Sevabharathi volunteers distributed food to around 18,000 flood affected people in Adyar, Kotturpuram, and Perungudi areas.

The volunteers also distributed kits that contained basic amenities including a mat, mosquito coil, dress, blanket, utensils etc. These kits were distributed to 300 flood affected people in the area.


RSS-Sevabharathi volunteers also carried out the mass cleaning of the Government School building and surrounding areas at the 29thSt, Indira Nagar, Chennai.

From brooming and cleaning to bleaching, sanitizing and removing drainage blocks, volunteers enthusiastically cleaned the entire area.

Medical Camps, Medicine Distribution Across Chennai and Cleaning Activities in Villiwakkam:-
Volunteers of Sevabharathi organized medical camps across Chennai. About 50 doctors here served thousands of patients in immediate need of medical attention. Medicines worth more than Rs. 5L were distributed in medical camps. Hundreds of volunteers, many of them women, also organized a mass cleaning activity.

The activity was carried out at Jafferkhanpet Corporation School and Government School in Villiwakkam. The volunteers cleaned up class rooms, bleached several areas and disinfected others.

The seva work by volunteers in Villiwakkam was supervised by Kshetra Seva Pramuk Shri Padmakumar. Local councilor Rani Venkatesan admired the efforts and dedication of volunteers.

Sevabharathi Volunteers Distributed Relief Materials at Chitlapakkam:-
RSS Sevabharathi volunteers distributed relief materials to hundreds of people affected by the floods at Chitlapakkam residential township, one of the 20 panchayat towns in Chennai metro area.

Flood relief Health camp at Mettupalayam:-
RSS Sevabharathi flood relief health camp was held on 12 Dec at Government School, Periyapalayathamman Koil Street, Arunthathiar Nagar, Mettupalayam and Near Perambur Jamalia.

A team of 4 doctors checked around 300 patients. Three doctors were from Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, Chennai and one Dr. Kiran Kumar was from Jayabharath Hospital, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.

The patients were treated for flood related diseases like Athletes Foot, Gastroenteritis and Respiratory Infections. Local residents appreciated the services rendered by the RSS Sevabharati.
